Mercury Plummets To 4.8°C In Odisha; Intense Cold To Continue For 4-5 Days

Bhubaneswar: With the revival of cold conditions in Odisha, the mercury plummeted to 4.8 degree Celsius in G Udayagiri, the hill station in Kandhamal district, during the last 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.

The night temperature dropped to 10 degree Celsius and below at six other places in the state. While Semiliguda in Koraput recorded 7.2 degree Celsius, minimum temperature at Phulbani and Daringbadi in Kandhamal stood at 8 and 9 degree Celsius respectively. Jharsuguda recorded 9 degree Celsius, while the mercury stood at 9.5 degree in Rourkela and 10 degree Celsius in Bhadrak.

Dense fog was experienced in Nayagarh and Phulbani districts, while Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi witnessed shallow fog during the period.

State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 13.8 degree Celsius, 1.7 degrees below normal. while Cuttack saw a slight rise in mercury levels from 13 degree Celsius to 14 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours.

The night temperature is likely to hover around 13-15 degree Celsius in the twin cities during the next seven days.

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that dense fog may engulf some parts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Nayagarh districts in next 24 hours.

Shallow to moderate fog is likely occur in Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jharsuguda and Koraput districts till January 20 morning.

Similarly, shallow to moderate fog is likely to occur in Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, and Koraput districts on Monday and Tuesday.

The weather agency has predicted that there will be no large change in the minimum (night) temperature during the next 4-5 days in the state.
