Bhubaneswar: The mercury plummeted to 5 degree Celsius in G Udayagiri, the hill station in Odisha’s Kandhamal, in the last 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.
The night temperature dropped to 10 degree Celsius and below at five other places in the state – Semiliguda in Koraput at 7.6 degree Celsius, followed by Phulbani and Daringbadi, also in Kandhamal, at 8 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda at 9.7 degree Celsius and Anul at 10 degree Celsius.
Dense fog was also seen in Phulbani.
Bhubaneswar recorded 12.3 degree Celsius, 3.2 degrees below normal, for the second consecutive day, while Cuttack saw a slight rise in mercury levels from 12.4 degree Celsius to 13 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours. The mercury is likely to hover around 11-13 degree Celsius in the twin cities during the next seven days.
The weather agency has warned of dense fog very likely at one or two places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Koraput till January 19 morning. Shallow to moderate fog may occur in Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Keonjhar and Jharsuguda till January 21 morning.
It has also predicted no large change in the night temperature during the next 4-5 days.
