Bhubaneswar: With Odisha in the grip of cold wave, the mercury plummeted to 6.5 degree Celsius at G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district in the last 24 hours, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed on Tuesday.
A total of 11 places in the state recorded night temperature at and below 10 degree Celsius. Besides G Udayagiri, Kirei (Sundargarh) saw the minimum temperature dropping to 7 degree Celsius, followed by Phulbani (Kandhamal) at 8.5 degree Celsius, Koraput (8.7), Keonjhar (8.8), Sundargarh (9), Jharsuguda (9.2), Daringbadi (Kandhamal) at 9.5 degree Celsius, Angul and Rourkela (Sundargarh) each at 9.6 degree Celsius and Ranital (Bhadrak) at 10 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack continued to feel the winter chill at 13.8 and 13.5 degree Celsius, respectively. It is for the fourth consecutive day that the mercury hovered around 13 degree Celsius in both cities and this is likely to continue for another 3 days, the weather agency said.
Amid the prevailing dry weather, the MeT office has also forecast foggy conditions in the state for next two days.
From 8.30 am on December 19 to 8.30 am on December 20
Shallow to moderate fog is likely at one or two places in Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Koraput, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul and Dhenkanal districts.
From 8.30 am on December 20 to 8.30 am on December 21
Shallow to moderate fog may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
There will be no large change in the night temperature during next 4-5 days, it added.
