Bhubaneswar: Continuing its upward trend, the mercury touched 39 degree Celsius in 5 places in Odisha on Thursday.
According to the evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, Pralakhemundi in Gajapati district was the hottest place in the state with maximum (day) temperature of 38.8 degree Celsius.
Boudh, which recorded maximum temperature of 38.5 degree Celsius on Wednesday, saw the mercury jumping by one degree to 39.5 on the day.
It was followed by Nayagarh with 39.2 degree Celsius, Titlagarh 39.2 and Bhawanipatna with 39 degree. Besides these 5 places, 11 other centres in the state boiled at 38 degree Celsius or more during the day.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered maximum temperature of 37.3 and 38.4 degree Celsius respectively.
The IMD has forecast gradual rise in maximum temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius during next 2 days. But there will be no large change thereafter at many places. Minimum temperature (night temperature) will gradually rise by 2-3 degree Celsius during next 3 days, the bulletin said.
