Bhubaneswar: Boudh remained the hottest place in the state even as temperature went up to 44 degree Celsius or more in 5 centres on Friday.
According to evening bulletin of regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), as many as 25 places recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree or more. Boudh topped the table with 45 degree Celsius. This was the season’s highest maximum temperature so far.
As many as nine places recorded maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius or above. Those are Angul (44.7), Jharsuguda (43.4), Sundargarh (43), Balangir (44), Titlagarh (43.8), Talcher (44.5), Deogarh (44.6) and Sonepur (43.6).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded maximum temperature of 40.2 and 40.1 degree Celsius respectively. Gopalpur in Ganjam district recorded the lowest temperature at 31.1 degree Celsius.
The IMD has forecast that heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir districts till 8.30 am on Saturday. It has issued yellow warning for these districts.
The Met office has stated in the bulletin that there will be no major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during next 2 days. The temperature may come down slightly by about 2 degree Celsius in subsequent 2-3 days.
Maximum temperature very likely to be more than 40°C and is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5°C at many places in interior Odisha. It is likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 °C at a few places in coastal Odisha during next 2 days.
