Bhubaneswar: As the scorching heatwave intensified further across Odisha, the maximum temperature soared above 40 degree Celsius in at least ten place in the state on Wednesday.
As per the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Boudh turned out to be the hottest place in the state recording a maximum temperature of 41.8 degree Celsius during the day.
Boudh was closely followed by Malkangiri where the mercury stood at 41.6 degree Celsius, while the maximum temperature touched 41.5 degree Celsius at Titlagarh as well as Balangir.
Similarly, Angul recorded 41.3 degree Celsius, while in Jnarsuguda the temperature was 40.8 degree. Nayagarh recorded maximum temperature of 40.6 degree Celsius, and both Sambalpur and Talcher 40.4 degree Celsius.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 36.8 degree Celsius, while the mercury stood at 38.2 degree Celsius in Cuttack.
Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning of heatwave for Odisha during the next three days. Warn nights may also prevail for over four days in the state.
It said there will be a gradual rise in the day temperature by 2-3°C during the next 3 days. It will be followed by thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind at some places. The state may experience light to moderate rain thereafter.
The maximum temperature is likely remain between 39°C to 41°C at a few places in interior Odisha and between 36°C to 38°C in coastal districts of the state during next 4 to 5 days due to prevailing mainly northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation. The night temperature is also likely rise gradually by 2-3°C during next 3 to 4 days at many places.
While the mercury may touch 40°C in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack by April 4-5, there will be slight drop in the day temperature the following day.
