Mercury Soars In Odisha As Monsoon Remains Elusive

Bhubaneswar: A day after the south-west monsoon left Odisha, the temperature went up sharply in most parts of the state on Friday.

While Titlagarh was the hottest place with 42 degree Celsius, mercury soared beyond 40 degree Celsius in seven other places viz, Chandbali (40.2), Cuttack (40.1), Bhubaneswar (40.2), Angul (40.7), Baripada (40.6), Bhawanipatna (40.7), Balangir (40.3), said an evening release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

Apart from this, mercury hovered around 35-40 degree Celsius in 10 places in the state.

The denizens of the capital city had a harrowing time as the temperature went up sharply from 8 am. Despite the Raja festival, all busy thoroughfares and market places in the city wore a deserted look due to intense heat.

According to the forecast by the India Meteorological Centre (IMD), there would be no change in the weather conditions till next week up to June 21 despite the possibility of Nor’wester at one or two places.

It also has issued thundershower warning for seven districts viz, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh and asked the people to remain alert till 11.30 pm.
