Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing dry weather conditions, the mercury soared to 37 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar, the highest in Odisha on Tuesday.
The state capital had recorded 35.6 degree Celsius by 2.30 pm against 32.8 degree Celsius the previous day, the regional centre of India Meteorological Centre informed.
Notably, the mercury levels had shot up to 38 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar on February 21, 2023, making it the warmest day of the month and the highest in four years. On February 23, 2019, the city had recorded 39.4 degrees Celsius. Weather records show that the city had witnessed an all-time high maximum temperature in February 1963 at 42.7 degree Celsius.
The IMD further said that 14 places in the state, besides Bhubaneswar, recorded day temperature of 35 degree Celsius and above. Boudh recorded 36 degree Celsius followed by Bhawanipatna, Paralakhemundi and Jharsuguda each at 35.6 degree Celsius, Titlagarh, Nayagarh, and Jagatsinghpur each at 35.5 degree Celsius, Balangir (35.3), Angul (35.1), Bhadark, Malkangiri, Talcher, Chandbali and Balasore each at 35 degree Celsius.
Cuttack recorded 34.7 degrees Celsius.
According to the weather agency, mercury is likely to hover around 35-36 degree Celsius in the state capital during the next two days and witness a slight drop thereafter amid light rain prediction in some parts of Odisha from February 22-26.
Seven places in coastal Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, also saw the night temperature soaring above 20 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours.
