Bhubaneswar: Amid thunderstorm and rain warnings, the day temperature hovered between 40 and 42 degree Celsius at 12 places in Odisha on Tuesday.
Sonepur and Boudh recorded the highest of 42.1 and 42 degree Celsius respectively, followed by Angul (41.9), Sambalpur, Titlagarh and Sundargarh at 41 degree Celsius, Bhawantipatna (40.6), Malkangiri (40.5), Jharsuguda (40.4) and Baripada, Nayagarh and Phulbani at 40 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack reported 39.7 and 37.4 degree Celsius respectively.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the mercury will continue to soar for another four to five days amid thunderstorm activities for three days from Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Rain brought some relief from the scorching heat in southern parts of Odisha on Tuesday. “Nuagada in Gajapati district received the highest rainfall of 28.2mm,” informed Director of the Met Centr, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower activities at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Nabarangpur during the next 24 hours.
Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind has been issued for one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada and Gajapati during this period.
Bhubaneswar might witness a partly cloudy sky and thunder or lightning in 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperature is expected to be around 40 and 26 degree Celsius respectively.
