Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted heat wave conditions in most parts of coastal and interior Odisha in the next 24 hours.
In a mid-day bulletin, the IMD said that the day temperature will rise by 2-3 degree Celsius in most parts of the state as the weather will remain dry for two days till Thursday.
Amid the heat spell, it has also forecast thundershower for three days in some parts of the state.
Though there will be thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed up to 30-40 kmph at one or two places in the coastal, north and interior region for three days from April 3 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood, the day temperature will gradually rise and intensify from April 6.
The IMD has issued a three-day yellow warning for the following districts.
March 3
Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bhadrak and Jajpur.
March 4
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri.
March 5
Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj.
Meanwhile, the day temperature recorded in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday was highest in Paralakhemundi at 40 degree Celsius followed by Angul (39.7), Baripada (39), Balangir (38.6), Titlagarh (39) and Boudh (38.5).
Besides, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 37.8 and 37.3 degree Celsius respectively.
