Bhubaneswar: Amid soaring temperatures across Odisha, the mercury touched or went above 36 degree Celsius in at least eleven places in the state on Wednesday.
Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district turned out to be the hottest place in the state recording highest day (maximum) temperature at 38 degree Celsius, according to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
It was closely followed by Balangir (36.9), Jharsuguda (36.8), Malkangiri (36.7), Titilagarh (36.5), Bhawanipatna (36.2), Sonepur (36.2), Rayagada (36.2), Talcher (36.0), Nayagarh (36.0) and Boudh (36.0).
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded the maximum temperature of 34.7 degree Celsius, while the mercury touched 34.8 degree Celsius Cuttack city.
The MeT Centre said that maximum temperatures observed appreciable fall at one or two places over south interior Odisha and marked rise at one or two places over the districts of north interior parts of the state.
No major change is likely in the minimum (night) temperature at many places over the districts of Odisha during next four to five days, it said.
