Mercury Touches 3°C As Cold Wave Grips Odisha; 15 Places Record Temp Below 10°C

Bhubaneswar: The mercury plummeted to 3°C for the first time this season as Odisha remained firmly under the grip of cold wave.


Semiliguda in Koraput was coldest place in the state on Thursday at 3.5°C, followed by G Udayagiri and Phulbani in Kandhamal at 4°C and 5.2°C, respectively, Chiplima in Bargarh at 6.1°C, Rourkela at 6.6°C, Jharsuguda at 6.7°C and Daringbadi, also in Kandhamal, at 7°C.

The other places, where the night temperature hovered around 10°C and below, include Bhawanipatna and Angul at 8°C each, Kirei in Sundargarh (8.1°C), Nabarangpur (8.6°C), Koraput and Balangir at 9.3°C each, Keonjhar  and Sundargarh at 9.6°C each, senior meteorologist Umasankar Das posted on X.

The night temperature also dropped in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, which recorded  11.8°C and 11.6°C respectively.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued cold wave warning for districts of Sundargarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Khurda, Nabarangpur, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Boudh and Kandhamal till December 11 morning.


It further stated that cold wave conditions may continue at isolated pockets in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul and Dhenkanal districts during the subsequent 24 hours, and Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Angul till December 13 morning. The night temperature is unlikely to witness any large change during the next 6-7 days, it added.
