Bhubaneswar: The sweltering heatwave sweeping across Odisha further intensified amid soaring temperatures coupled with high levels of humidity in many parts of the state on Sunday.
As the scorching heat continued to throw life out of gear in several parts of the state, Jharsuguda recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8 degree Celsius by 11:30 am on Sunday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Similarly, the mercury stood at 39.2 degree Celsius in Keonjhar, while the maximum temperature was 38.2 degree in Bhubaneswar, 37.6 degree in Sambalpur, 37.2 in Balasore, 37 degree at Chandbali and 36.4 degree Celsius at Hirakud by 11.30 am, the MeT office said.
It said several districts of the state are likely to experience heatwave to severe heatwave conditions over the next three to four days. The temperature may start dropping thereafter.
During the last 24 hours, places like Phulbani, Hirakud, Keonjhar, Balangir, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur experienced severe heatwave conditions, the MeT office said. Similarly, several places including Koraput, Sundargarh, Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna faced heatwave.
There will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places in the state during next four days. Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 3-5 degree Celsius at some places.
Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during next 4 days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during 11 am and 3 pm, the Met office said.
It has issued yellow warning and said heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at some places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
