Mercury Touches 42 Degree Celsius In 2 Places Of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to be in grip of heatwave with maximum temperature touching 42 degree Celsius in two places on Thursday.

According to the regional office of the India Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar, as many as 7 places in the state registered maximum (day) temperature of 41 degree Celsius or more on the day.

Malkangiri and Boudh were the hottest places in the state as mercury shot up to 42 degree Celsius. These places were followed by Angul and Balangir with 41.7 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda 41.6, and Bhawanipatna 41 degree Celsius.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered maximum temperature of 37.4 and 38 degree Celsius respectively. Maximum and minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar are very likely to be around 39 degree and 27 degree respectively in next 24 hours.

The Met office said due to prevailing Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, maximum temperature is likely to be more than 40 degree Celsius at many places in the state and is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5 degree in some districts till April 6.

Issuing a yellow warning, the weather forecaster said heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Balangir, Keonjhar, Boudh, Malkangiri, Nayagarh and Angul. Warm night condition is very likely at one or two places in Balangir, Kandhamal, Boudh and Bhadrak.
