Bhubaneswar: Most of the areas in Odisha reeled under heatwave as mercury zooming up to 44 degree Celsius in 3 places on Friday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of Odisha Meteorological department in Bhubaneswar, as many as 21 places recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius compared to 17 places on Thursday.
Sambalpur continued to remain the hottest place in the state with a day temperature of 44.4 degree Celsius, followed by Sonepur and Boudh with 44 degree on the day.
As many as 5 places sizzled under 43 degree Celsius including Jharsuguda (43.8), Hirakud (43.6), Balangir (43.3), Rourkela (43.2) and Sundargarh (43).
The IMD has forecast no large change in the day temperature during the next 5 days with mercury hovering around 43-44 degree Celsius in interior districts of the state, which is also likely to experience isolated thunderstorm activity during this period.
The Met office has issued yellow warning for some parts of districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur which will experience light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph.
