New Delhi: In an attempt to mitigate the situation migrant agricultural labourers, industrial workers and other unorganised sector workers during the 21-day nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, the Union Home Secretary has written to all States/UTs to take immediate steps to provide them with adequate support in the form of food and shelter
They have also been asked to ensure that students and working women from other states, etc. are allowed to continue in their existing accommodation.
It has been suggested that the States/UTs involved various agencies, including NGOs to provide food, shelter, clean drinking water and sanitation etc. These groups should also be told about the Government’s provision of free food grains and other essential items through PDS.
While ensuring the supply of essential goods and services, States/UTs are being repeatedly directed to enforce the lockdown strictly and take action against violators under various provisions of law. This is imperative to contain the spread of COVID-19.
