Bhubaneswar: Seven more areas were added to the long list of the micro-containment zone in the Odisha capital on Wednesday, following the detection of multiple COVID-19 cases.
Five areas in the southeast zone of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and two in the north zone have been declared micro-containment zones.
Details awaited.
On Tuesday, the civic body had declared 16 more micro-containment zones to check the spread of the virus.
Notably, the number of micro-containment zones in Bhubaneswar has crossed the 100-mark since it was hit by the third wave of the COVID pandemic earlier this month. The city with over 3000 active cases had never seen such an extent of containment measures during the previous two waves.
Bhubaneswar has been witnessing an upward surge in new infections since January 4 despite 100 pr cent vaccination coverage. “Micro-containment will helo check the further spread of the virus. We have limited curbs since the livelihood has to be given due priority as well,” BMC Commissioner Sanjay Singh told the media.
Entry of the public into the containment zones is banned. The inhabitants of the containment zones have also been advised to stay indoors. Shopping establishments, government and private institutions located within the boundary of the containment zone will also remain closed with essentials and medicines being supplied by the corporation.
