San Francisco: Microsoft is reportedly planning to join the leagues of Facebook, Twitter and other tech companies to let its employees work permanently from home because of the pandemic, according to a media report.
Most of Microsoft’s employees are working from home currently due to COVID-19, and the company is not opening its US offices till January at least, Verge reported.
Employees will reportedly be given the option to work from home permanently, in lieu of their office space.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged all of us to think, live and work in new ways,” Microsoft’s Chief People Officer Kathleen Hogan said in a note to employees obtained by Verge.
“We will offer as much flexibility as possible to support individual workstyles, while balancing business needs and ensuring we live our culture,” the note added
Some employees will be eligible for remote working, and some will require spending 50 per cent of their times in the office.
Microsoft employs 1,63,000 people globally including 96,000 in the US.
