Bhubaneswar: A middle-aged couple was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in their house in Odisha’s Khurda district on Thursday.
According to sources, 50-year-old Durga Charan Prusty and his 42-year-old wife Mamina Prusty of Manpur Patna village under Tangi police station used to prepare papads and sell those for livelihood.
When the couple did not open the front door of their house till late into day, the villagers became suspicious and gathered there. They knocked on the door but there was no response.
Suspecting something foul, the villagers informed the police. As the couple did not open the door after repeated knocks, the police broke open it and entered the house in presence of additional tehsildar. They found the couple hanging from ceiling of a room.
The police seized the bodies and sent those for post-mortem. They have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.
Though the cause of the couple’s death has not been ascertained, the locals suspected that financial constraints might have led them to take the extreme step.
