Berhampur: About 150 irate migrant workers staged a rasta roko on the National Highway 6 near Haladiapadar Bus Terminus in protest against mismanagement in their transport to quarantine centres on Thursday.
The migrant workers alleged that the district administration had not made adequate arrangments for supply of food or transportation to quarantine centers at their respective villages.
The rasta roko that continued for 30 minutes was withdrawn after the district administration held a discussion with the protesting returnees and made necessary arrangements to send them to their respective destinations.
It may be noted that the Haladiapadar Bus Terminus built by Urban Development Department at a cost of Rs 12.61 crore was inaugurated on February 2, 2016 by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Though the bus terminus is yet to be operational, the authorities have turned it into the main transport point of the migrant workers for the entire Ganjam district.
