Mumbai: Remember heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson’s ear-biting rage? During a world championship bout way back in 1997, with Evander Holyfield, Tyson bit a chunk of his opponent’s ear, spit it out and bit his ear again.
Almost three decades later, a similarly gory episode took place in Maharashtra, though not during any sporting duel.
In a shocking incident at a posh housing society in Thane’s Patlipada area, a man bit off a part of his friend’s ear and swallowed it during an argument at a party, PTI quoted police officials as saying on Thursday.
According to police, the victim Shravan Leekha, 37, is a film producer, while the accused is 32-year-old Vikas Menon, an IT professional, and both live in Hiranandani Estate’s Solitaire Co-Operative Housing Society.
Shravan claimed that he and Vikas got into a heated argument while partying with their friends.
In his complaint, Shravan claimed that 32-year-old Menon attacked him in a fit of rage, bit off a part of his ear and even swallowed it.
Shocked and bewildered, Shravan went to a nearby hospital with blood oozing from his wounded ear. After receiving preliminary treatment, he went straight to Kasarvadavli police station to file a complaint.
“He was my friend, and I don’t know what made him so angry. Now, I will have to undergo two surgeries to reconstruct my ear, which will cost Rs 4-5 lakh. As of now, the doctor has only done the dressing of the ear,” said Shravan.
Vikas has been booked for voluntarily causing grievous hurt under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 117 (2).
