Berhampur: Amid the lockdown and shutdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, the milk ATM has come as a boon for the people of the city.
Greater Ganjam Gajapati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited (GGGCMPUL), a milk suppliers’ cooperative, is supplying 1800 to 2000 liters of milk through milk ATMs and mobile ATM in Berhampur.
One milk vending machine was installed at Gate Bazar last year and another on the premises of MKCG Medical College and Hospital last month. The patients in the MKCG can get hot milk from the ATM established on the campus while a mobile ATM launched last month is supplying milk on the doorstep of the people in different streets.
Collector Ganjam Vijay Amirit Kulange said the mobile milk ATM sells around 620 litre of milk per day.
At the time of the lockdown or shutdown imposed by the district administration to contain the spread of COVID-19 the problem of getting the milk is solved by these ATMs.
National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) had extended loan for processing raw milk and supplying it through ATMs and Tata Steel Rural Development Society constructed the ATM kiosks.
