Cuttack: The prices of milk products including paneer, cottage cheese and ‘khoa’ will go up in Odisha’s Cuttack from May 1.
The Cuttack District Dairy Product Traders’ Association on Tuesday said it decided to increase the prices of the milk products by Rs 20 to 60 per kg after the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (Omfed) raised the milk prices by Rs 2 per litre from April 1.
The association, in a release, stated that the price of paneer would be raised from Rs 225 to Rs 255 per kg. Similarly, the cottage cheese (chhena) will cost Rs 195 in place of the present Rs 175 per kg and ‘khoa’ will be sold at Rs 320 against the current price of Rs 260 per kg.
General secretary of the association Pradip Behera said besides the rise in price rise effected by Omfed, the costs of other inputs have gone up. “Normally 1 kg of paneer is produced from 5 litre of milk. The costs of fuelwood and LPG have also gone up. These factors have forced us to increase the prices of milk products. We have informed all the milk traders in the district in this regard,” he said.
It may be noted that the Omfed had hiked the milk prices citing the demand of the milk farmers and rise in costs of fodder, medicine and fuel.
