Ahmedabad: Flying Sikh Milkha Singh (posthumously) and track queen PT Usha were chosen for the prestigious SJFI Medal for 2022 at the federation’s Annual General Meeting held at Sports Club of Gujarat here on Sunday.
The previous three winners were tennis great Vijay Amritraj, badminton legend Prakash Padukone and cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar.
Milkha, who passed way two years ago at the age of 91, won 2 gold medals each at the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games (200m and 400m) and 1962 Jakarta Asian Games (400m and 4×400 relay).
Usha bagged 11 medals in the Asian Games including four gold at 1986 Seoul Games (200m, 400m, 400m hurdles and 4×400 relay). She is currently president of Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
SJFI, at its AGM, elected Tushar Trivedi as president, Prashant Keni as secretary and Partha Chakraborty as treasurer for a two-year term (2023-2025).
