Millionaire Odisha ADM Arrested; Check His ‘Disproportionate’ Assets

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha vigilance on Sunday arrested Additional District Magistrate, Sundargarh, Biswajit Mohapatra for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A case has been registered under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 Prevention of Corruption Act,1988 as amended by P.C (Amendment) Act, 2018, against the ADM and his spouse. He will be forwarded to Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, an official release said.

On February 11, simultaneous raids were conducted at seven places in Khurda, Sundargarh, and Jagatsinghpur districts on the allegation that he possessed disproportionate assets.

Searches were carried out at:

1) Residential house at Rudrapur, Balianta, Bhubaneswar

2) Flat at Ashiana Apartment, Rasulgarh, Bhubaneswar

3) House at native village- Redhua, Raghunathpur, Jagatsinghpur district

4) House of relatives at Village- Jadatira, Manijanga, Jagatsingjpur district

5) Residential accommodation of relative on OCL Campus, Rajgangpur, Sundargarh district

6) Office residence at Sundargarh town.

7) Office chamber located at Collectorate, Sundargarh

Assets unearthed:

1) One double-storey building at Naharkanta, Bhubaneswar worth about Rs. 89 lakh

2) One flat at Asiana, Rasulgarh, Bhubaneswar

3) 10 plots in Bhubaneswar and Jagatsinghpur

a) Plot located at Naharkanta College Road, Balianta, Bhubaneswar, measuring 5000 sqft. approx

b) Plot bearing No. 335/413, Mouza Johala, Balianta, Bhubaneswar measuring A0.850 decimals

c) Plot bearing No. 691/2704, Khata No. 384/553, Mouza Uttamundmuhan, Jatani, Khurda, measuring A0.930 decimals

d) Plot bearing No. 279, Khata No. 285/111, Mouza-Barti, Raghunathpur, Jagatsinghpur measuring A0.77 decimals.

e) Plot bearing No. 122, Khata No. 186, Mouza-Jagannathpur, Jagatsinghpur measuring A0.14 decimals.

f) Plot bearing No. 169, Khata No. 405/54 Mouza-Jagannathpur, Jagatsinghpur measuring A0.06 decimals.

g) Plot bearing No. 217, Khata No. 335, Mouza- Jagannathpur, Jagatsinghpur measuring A0.37 decimals

h) Plot bearing No. 1061, Khata No. 244, Mouza- Jagannathpur, Jagatsinghpur measuring A0.41 decimals.

i) 2 plots bearing No. 838 and 839, Khata No. 1022/25, MouzaRedhua, Jagatsinghpur measuring A0.03 decimals.

“Verification and valuation of plots are being done. Market value may be in crores,” the release said.

4. The ADM had also started a cement business recently in name of his spouse. A godown with cement stocks opposite to his house at Balianta, Bhubaneswar, was unearthed during the search.

5. Over Rs. 2.42 crore found in bank fixed deposits, saving accounts, insurance premium, Mutual Funds and NPS.

 

6. Cash Over Rs. 3 lakh.

7. Gold weighing 350 grams.

Gold weighing 120 gm and Rs 32000 in cash were seized during further searches the following day, it added.
