Bhubaneswar: Well-known social activist and Commissioner of the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) Dr Minati Behera resigned from the post on Sunday.
Notably, the state government had appointed Behera as the SCPD Commissioner on April 6, 2015, with the approval of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who had chosen her among the three names recommended by the Search Committee for this post.
The post was lying vacant after the retirement of Kasturi Mohapatra.
Apart from Behera, chairperson of State Commission for Women (SCW) Lopamudra Baxipatra also resigned from her post on Sunday and sent her resignation letter to the Chief Minister.
Reliable sources said that the ahead of the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections scheduled next year, the Biju Janata Dal might be planning to overhaul its women’s wing Biju Mahila Janata Dal for which Lopamudra Baxipatra and Minati Behera quit their respective posts and join the Biju Mahila Janata Dal to make it proactive.
