Koraput: A mining officer, Pitambar Mohanta, working at the Deputy Director of Mines’ office in Odisha’s Koraput district, was allegedly attacked on Wednesday during a crackdown on illegal stone and sand smuggling.
The Assistant Mining Officer in his complaint stated that he was attacked early this morning for detaining seven vehicles (6 hyva trucks and a tractor) engaged in illegal sand smuggling.
On being informed about the incident, Town Police visited the spot and launched an investigation into the matter after bringing the seized vehicles to Railway Police Ground.
The attackers, reportedly owners of illegal stone quarries, have been detained, sources said.
