Minister Pratap Jena Assures Protesting Farmers Of Paddy Purchase In Odisha’s Sundargarh

Sundargarh: The farmers on agitation in Sundargarh were assured by Panchayati Raj Minister and BJD MLA Pratap Jena that the issues regarding procurement of paddy crops in the district will be resolved soon by the department concerned.

Farmers had gheraoed the Circuit House here and sat on a dharna protesting irregularities in the procurement of paddy crops.

The farmers threatened not to withdraw their agitation till their produce is bought by the authorities concerned. The farmers said all they is sale of their produce and do not want any procurement token. They have sought increase in target so as to sell their entire produce without letting it go waste.

Jena is on a three-day tour to the district to look after the arrangements ahead of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s scheduled visit to Sundargarh on February 16.

On Wednesday, a group of farmers had also gheraoed Jena at Tangerpalli block office over the delay in paddy procurement in the district.
