Minister Slams Poor Maintenance During Surprise Visit To Bhubaneswar’s IG Park



Bhubaneswar: Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Thursday paid a surprise visit to Indira Gandhi (IG) Park in Bhubaneswar to assess the condition of public amenities and the overall upkeep of the popular recreational space.

IG Park, located in a prime area of the city near the Odisha Assembly and frequented daily by hundreds of visitors, has long been considered a vital green space for residents, who crowds daily for morning walks, jogging, yoga, and r

elaxation.

During the inspection, the Minister interacted with visitors and enquired about the facilities available, seeking direct feedback. He expressed strong displeasure over the inadequate maintenance, especially the poor condition of urinals and toilet facilities, which he described as unhygienic and substandard.

Mahapatra directed officials to take immediate corrective measures, stressing the importance of proper sanitation, regular upkeep and improved service quality across the park. He also warned of strict action against negligent officials if lapses continued.

Deputy Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation N Ganesh Babu, accompanied the Minister during the inspection. Park officials and maintenance staff were present and were instructed to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the park remains clean, safe and welcoming for visitors at all times.
