Mumbai: ‘Pathaan’, one of the most anticipated films of 2023, has already run into controversy well before its release.
No sooner had the first song ‘Besharam Rang’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, dropped on Internet than it triggered a controversy.
Fans appreciated the sizzling chemistry between the ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Chennai Express’ co-stars, but politicians disapproved of certain aspects of the Siddharth Anand-directed movie, which is scheduled to hit theatres on January 25, 2023.
Watch the song shared by SRK on social media:
Madhya Pradesh Home minister Dr Narottam Mishra fumed over the use of saffron costumes in the film and objectionable scenes, threatening to ban its release.
“The film ‘Pathaan’ is full of faults & based on toxic mentality… Lyrics of the song ‘Besharam Rang’ and saffron & green clothes worn in the song need to be corrected or else we will take decision on whether to let the film’s screening happen in MP or not,” Mishra said on Wednesday.
Calling Deepika a supporter of the ‘tukde tukde gang’ in a tweet in Hindi, the minister wrote that the costumes are “highly objectionable and the song has been shot with a dirty mindset.”
Shah Rukh will be seen in ‘Pathaan’ as a RAW field agent, while Deepika plays her love interest. John Abraham also plays a key role, Vishal-Shekhar are the music composers.
