Cuttack: A 17-year-old boy attempted to rape a five-year-old girl on the pretext of giving her an orange in Cuttack on Saturday.
The family members of the victim lodged a complaint at the Badambadi police station. The police have detained the accused, a neighbour of the girl, for interrogation.
According to sources, the girl was eating at her home on Saturday when the accused called her on the pretext of giving orange. Then he took her to a lonely place on a cycle and attempted to rape her.
Hearing her scream, some students from a nearby library rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. They informed her family members about the incident. The students also managed to nab the accused, who was trying to flee from the spot. The identity of the accused is yet to be disclosed.
