Balasore: A minor boy allegedly committed suicide as his parents did not buy a smartphone for him to play video game in Odisha’s Balasore district.
As per reports, the boy belonging to Shantinagar village under Bhograi block of the district had gone with his parents to Bengaluru where they work as labourers. While he was in Bengaluru, the boy came to about video game “Free Fire” and started playing it in others’ phones.
As he got attracted to the game, he demanded his parents to purchase a smartphone to play Free Fire. But his father Sunil Swain turned him down citing their financial condition.
The boy and his parent had come to his village to celebrate Dussehra. He again asked money from his father to buy the smartphone but Sunil expressed his inability.
Apparently feeling depressed for being deprived of playing the video game, the boy reportedly hanged himself in his house on Friday night.
On being informed, a police team from Bhograi went to Shantinagar and sent the body for post-mortem. They have registered a case and started investigation.
