Cuttack: A 12-year-old boy was allegedly detained and assaulted for three days at the police outpost on the SCB Medical College & Hospital premises in Odisha’s Cuttack.
Police had detained the boy from Jharkhand for allegedly stealing three mobile phones, which he had handed over to a miscreant.
The boy was released on Sunday after the intervention of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Childline member R Donald Behera.
DCP (Cuttack) Prateek Singh said an ADCP-rank officer will carry out the probe and action will be taken if there was any violation of laws.
“The police should have produced the boy before the Juvenile Justice Board within 24 hours of the detention,” Amiya Biswal, member, CWC, was quoted as saying.
The boy told Childline members that the police assaulted him with a pipe.
