Puri: In a tragic incident on the auspicious day of Snana Purnima on Sunday, a minor boy drowned while taking bath in sea in Odisha’s Puri town.
As per reports, the 14-year-old boy, identified as Dilchand of Rajasthan had come to have darshan of sibling deities of Jagannath temple in the Pilgrim Town. After having darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devis Subhadra on Snana Mandap, they went to the sea beach at Sector 7 near Chaitanya square.
While Dilchand was bathing in the sea along with his family members, he was dragged by a strong current into deep water. As his family cried for help, the life guards deployed on the beach dived into the sea to rescue the minor boy.
Following a search, the life guards found the boy and brought him out to the beach. They also rushed an unconscious Dilchand the district headquarters hospital in the town in an ambulance. But the doctors declared him brought dead.
It may be noted that an elderly devotee also from Rajasthan died while having darshan of the deities on the day.
