Nuapada: In third leopard attack in less than a week, a minor boy was seriously injured in Odisha’s Nuapada district on Saturday.
According to reports, 6-year-old Nilakantha Bariha of Kodapali village under Daharambandha police limits in the district was targeted by the leopard.
While the boy was playing outside his house, the big cat grabbed him and tried to take him away. But the villagers created a ruckus and chased the leopard. They also reportedly hurled stones and sticks at the wild animal on the run.
Apparently frightened by the sight, the leopard dropped the boy and ran into the forest. The villagers rushed him to the hospital at Daharambandha. Nilakanath sustained injuries on different parts of his body in the attack by the leopard. However, his condition was stable, the hospital sources said.
Earlier in the day, a woman of Siliaribahara village under the same police station was killed by the leopard. The woman had gone to the forest near the village when she was attacked by the wild animal. Later, the villagers and Forest officials found different parts of the woman severed by the leopard in the forest.
