Sambalpur: A 15-year-old girl, who was allegedly gangraped in Sasan area of Sambalpur district on May 2, committed suicide on Wednesday.
The girl hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her house when other family members were away.
The incident came to the light after the landlord of the house found burning smell of food coming out of the kitchen of the victim’s house. After reaching the place, he saw the girl hanging and immediately informed her family members about the incident.
The body has been sent o Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for post-mortem.
Locals and police suspect that she might have taken the extreme step after losing her mental balance.
All the six accused, including a minor boy, were arrested in connection with the case. The case was filed under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police has already filed charge-sheet against the accused in the court within 15 days of the incident.
On May 2, the girl had gone to a market near her house when the accused persons took her to a secluded place and gangraped her.
