Kendrapada: In a disturbing incident, a minor girl from a migrant family was allegedly gangraped in Odisha’s Kendrapara district.
Sources said some miscreants allegedly abducted the girl at knife-point from her residence in the early hours of Tuesday. She was taken to an isolated location where the perpetrators reportedly assaulted her.
Kendrapada Sadar Police Station registered a case of gangrape following a written complaint filed by the victim’s mother. The police have initiated a f
ormal investigation into the incident.
The victim’s family sustains livelihood through sweeper work near Jajang Kali Temple in the Kendrapada Sadar Police Station jurisdiction. Around 1.30 am, the minor girl stepped approximately 50 feet from her residence when two intoxicated men assaulted the victim by slapping her, forcibly took her to a nearby area, and subjected her to sexual assault.
Upon hearing the victim’s cries for help, her mother and elder sister immediately rushed to the spot. Upon their arrival, the accused fled the scene, leaving behind their footwear and a liquor bottle – both of which have been secured as material evidence.
Acting swiftly on the First Information Report (FIR), Kendrapada police detained two suspects, stated to be from Chhattisgarh, for interrogation.
Medical examinations of the survivor and suspects were being scheduled, and investigators were gathering evidence to build a strong case against the accused. Further investigation is in progress.
Kendrapada SP has personally directed that the matter be treated with utmost seriousness and that all requisite legal steps be taken promptly.
