Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including a minor girl, were killed in separate elephant attacks in Balasore and Khurda districts of Odisha on Saturday.
According to sources, an eight-year-old girl was trampled to death by an elephant at Saralia Chitrasul village under Soro block of Balasore district in the early hours.
The girl was speeling in her house when a herd of around eight elephants entered the courtyard. When the family members tried to drive away the pachyderms, one of the elephants entered their house and trampled the minor girl.
The girl was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, but doctors declared her dead.
In another incident, an elephant killed a labourer on Kamaguru-Mayurjhalia road under Tangi Range in Khurrda district.
The deceased has been identified as Satya Behera, a resident of Natini village under Ranapur police limits in Nayagarh district.
Behera was attacked by the pachyderm when he along with two other labourers were on their way to dig a well. While Behera was trampled to death by the elephant, two others managed to escape.
