Nayagarh: A minor girl drowned while three others were rescued as they were washed away by the strong current of the floodwater of river Brutang in the district on Sunday.
According to reports, the four girls had gone to take bath in the river as part of Khudurkuni Puja celebration in a village under Daspalla police limits when they were carried away by the floodwater.
On getting information, the locals along with the Fire personnel from Daspalla rushed to the spot and managed to rescue three girls. Later, the body of the fourth girl was retrieved from the river.
The deceased was identified as that of 13-year-old Sradhanjali Majhi of Gurusahi.
Earlier, the local administration had warned of going to the river due to the possibility of current in the floodwater.
