Berhampur: A minor girl was allegedly abducted by a youth from Berhampur railway station of Odisha’s Ganjam district and raped after being drugged at a lodge in Simanchalam area of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Police arrested the accused, identified as P Saroj Kumar Pradhan (35) of Sanadumula under Digapahandi police limits, and rescued the victim on Saturday.
According to police, the statement of the victim has been recorded. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had spiked her food and drink. A glass and some clothes seized from the lodge have been sent to State Forensic Scientific Laboratory for test,” an officer of Bada Bazaar police station said.
The victim and the accused were also medically examined.
Sources said that the family of the minor girl had lodged complaint with on March 16, alleging that she had disappeared. The incident came to the fore after the girl escaped from the lodge on Friday and informed her brother about the incident. Later, police along with family members reached there and rescued the minor.
