Jajpur: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 72-year-old man at Vyasanagar in Jajpur district on Wednesday night.
The victim’s elder sister has lodged a complaint in this regard at Jajpur Road police station.
According to the complaint, Sashadhar Barik lured the girl with the offer of chocolates to go to his house, where he raped her.
Based on the report, police conducted raids at different places in the district and managed to nab the accused.
Meanwhile, the child has been sent for medical examination.
A similar incident was reported from Malkangiri district on August 11 when a nine-year-old girl was sexually harassed by her neighbour at MV-10 area of the district.
Following the incident, the girl narrated the ordeal to her parents who lodged an FIR through the Child Welfare Committee officials. She was later admitted to a hospital after her health condition deteriorated.
The accused was arrested and sent for medical examination.
