Gajapati: Police on Wednesday arrested a youth for allegedly abducting and raping a Class-X girl student in an area under Ramgiri police limits in Mohana block of Gajapati district.
The accused has been identified as Nandu Raita.
According to sources, Raita abducted the girl while she was on her way to school on Tuesday. He then took her to a lonely place and allegedly raped her.
Hearing screams, villagers rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.
Based on a complaint lodged by girl’s uncle, Ramgiri police arrested Raita.
The accused and the survivor were also sent for medical examination.
Further investigation is underway.
