Nayagarh: A minor girl, who was held captive after being allegedly raped and beaten, was rescued by police in the district on Friday.
According to sources, the parents of the girl had complained to village committee after a youth of the village allegedly raped her. As the village committee did not take any step against the accused, the victim’s parents lodged a complaint at Ranpur police station.
Infuriated by the action of the girl’s parents, six villagers went to the latter’s house and beat them up. The six accused also forcibly took away the girl and tied her to an electricity pole in the village. They had threatened the villagers of dire consequences, if they came to the help of the girl or reported the matter to police.
However, police came to know about the incident and rushed to the village. They rescued the girl and arrested the six accused.
Ranpur police has registered a case and would forward the arrested persons to court.
