Balangir: In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly sacrificed by her elder brother, a sorcerer, on the day of the solar eclipse ( December 26) at Salebaratra village under Sindhekela police limits in Odisha’s Balangir district.
The girl, identified as Janani Rana, went missing on Thursday., follow which, her father lodged a police complaint, accusing his son Sobhaban Rana of killing her for sorcery.
The police have registered a complaint and detained Sobhaban for questioning.
According to the complaint, on the day of solar eclipse Sobhaban was going to Khariar, and he asked her sister to drop him near the river on her bicycle at around 8 am. The girl did not return home post the incident.
Sobhaban was out on bail after being arrested for allegedly sacrificing his 9-year-old cousin, Mithun Rana, for sorcery last year, the sources added.
Several villagers on Saturday gheraoed the police station demanding his immediate arrest.
