Khurda: Police on Sunday arrested a youth for stabbing a minor girl to death in Balugaon town in Odisha’s Khurda district on Saturday night.
The arrested was identified as R Gopi, a neighbour of the deceased.
Police sources said the accused had a one-sided love with the girl, who was working at a tailor shop at Annapurna Nagar under Balugaon police station limits. He has proposed to marry her. But as she rejected his plea, he decided to kill her.
On Saturday night, the girl was returning to her house from the shop when Gopi attacked her with a knife and fled after the locals rushed to the spot.
The girl was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Khurda SP and Balugaon SDPO rushed to Annapurna Nagar. After preliminary investigation, police launched a manhunt and arrested Gopi on Sunday early morning.
The body would be brought to Balugaon later in the day after post-mortem at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The accused, who police is interrogating, would be forwarded to court on Sunday.
