Jagatsinghpur: A body of a minor girl was recovered from a cashew forest at Gadaharishpur village under Ersama block in Jagatsinghpur district on Wednesday.
Some locals spotted the body and immediately informed the police.
The victim had gone to attend nature’s call to the forest on Tuesday night when some miscreants allegedly raped and murdered her, locals said.
Protesting the incident, a group of villagers gathered near the spot and burnt tyres demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
A manhunt has been launched to trace and nab those involved in the crime, the sources added.
Expressing profound grief and shock over the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to the kin of the deceased.
