Kendujhar: A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped, raped, and then attacked in a murder attempt by a relative at a village in Odisha’s Kendujhar district on Friday.
According to preliminary information, the accused was overpowered by locals and hand
ed over to the police. The incident reportedly took place in Raigoda area under Sadar police limits in Banspal block.
Sources said the accused, a truck driver, abducted the girl in his vehicle and took her to a secluded spot. He raped her and then attempted to kill her by hitting her with a stone. Her cries for help alerted locals, who rushed to the scene and rescued her in critical condition.
Locals overpowered the accused, thrashed him, and handed him over to the police. The girl was shifted to a hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Police from the Shuakati outpost detained the accused and launched an investigation. Officials confirmed that the case involves kidnapping, sexual assault, and attempted murder.
The incident triggered tension in the area as locals blocked the Raigoda–Rangadihi road in protest demanding strict action against the accused and protection for minors.
