Baripada: Two sisters aged three and four drowned in a pit filled with rainwater in a farmland close to their house at Chandua village under Kuliana police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Subhashree Besra and Sukulmuni Besra.
Sources said the girls were playing near the pit when they slipped into it and drowned. The girls’ family and villagers later retrieved the bodies.
In another incident, a youth accidentally fell into a deep canal and drowned at Kusarab village near Dharakote in the district.
Fire department personnel later fished out the body from the canal.
