Koraput: A tribal girl was allegedly gang-raped when she had gone to watch a jatra event in Laxmipur area of Odisha’s Koraput district. Four suspects have been detained in connection with the incident following a complaint lodged on Monday.
As per sources, the minor girl of Paradiguda village had gone to watch jatra programme) during the Budhi Thakurani festival in Biriguda village in Laxmipur tehsil on Saturday night.
While returning after watching the show, she was abducted by a group of youths who took her to an isolated place and allegedly then took turns to sexually assault her.
She somehow managed to escape, and later shared her ordeal with her parents after which a complaint was filed with Laxmipur police.
Based on the complaint, the police have initiated an investigation and detained four accused persons, who are residents of Kasipur area in Rayagada district. Steps have been taken to conduct the girl’s medical examination, while the accused are being questioned.
