Minor Tribal Girl ‘Raped’ By Auto Driver In Mayurbhanj

Baripada: Amid all the hue and cry over the heinous rapes of minors and the politics around nailing the perpetrators, another case involving a tribal girl was reported from Thakurmunda in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district late on Wednesday.
The minor girl was allegedly raped by an autorickshaw driver, whom police have detained for questioning on the basis of a complaint lodged by her family members.
According to sources, the girl had gone to witness a religious event, ‘Uda Parba’, with her parents in an autorickshaw. After her parents got off the vehicle, the accused drove away the autorickshaw with the minor on the pretext of parking it. He then took her to a secluded place and raped her.
Some locals found the girl in an unconscious state from a bush. She was admitted to Karanjia hospital in a critical condition.
As soon as the news spread, angry locals on Thursday morning blocked the Karanjia-Anandpur road by burning tyres, demanding action against the culprit.
This incident comes close on the heels of an eight-year-old being allegedly raped by her uncle in Kalahandi district the same day.
